About Igusa
What is igsa, the material of tatami mats?
One of the things that influences the quality of tatami mats is the rush material.
Rush is a plant deeply rooted in Japanese culture. It is a grass that grows along watersides, and has long, thin stems, some of which are over 2 meters in height.
The "tatami" table is made by weaving this rush.
Because it is a natural material, there is a big difference in quality depending on the producer, cultivation method, weaving method, and management method.

About Igusa Farmer

We only use tatami facings from producers that I personally met and truly trust.
The seriousness of facing each rush and the flexibility to respond to the environment are reflected in the tatami surface. Please touch our "Tatami" by all means.
We are confident that you will experience the luster, elasticity, and beauty that cannot be found anywhere else.
Features of our rush
rush made by Nobuhisa Uemoto
The rush that Uemoto makes is cultivated in a special way.
Through repeated trial and error, we arrived at the conclusion that both rushes and humans need the same nutrients. Mr. Uemoto throws the foods we normally eat into the rice fields, such as yogurt, Japanese natto, and fermented soybeans.
Healthy rushes grown in these rich soils are as durable and beautiful as people are.
